Step 1: Make a PlanBefore jumping into any changes, it's important to consider how all appliances and heating/cooling systems in your home work together as a system. What works in one home or commercial space won't necessarily work in another.
Start by understanding how your appliances are powered (gas or electric); consider which appliances might be on their last legs and need to replaced soon; think about the energy efficiency of existing and new appliances; get curious about ways to weatherize to decrease heat loss, and learn about how tax credits and rebates can help. Understanding how these elements come together to make your home comfortable and functional will help clarify where your electrification journey should begin. It will also help determine if adding rooftop solar might be a good option now, if you should focus on transitioning away from gas-powered appliances first or if you can do both.
