Missoula City-County Rebate

​Are you thinking about replacing your water heater? Looking to purchase one that will save you money while helping you do your part for climate change? Have you already purchased a heat pump water heater (on or after June 1, 2023) and are looking for a rebate?

You’re in luck! The City of Missoula and Missoula County are partnering to offer a local $500 rebate for heat pump water heaters for projects completed in Missoula County. Fill out a satisfaction survey after your project is complete and receive an additional $75. Plus, expanded federal tax credits can cover 30% of project costs!

$3,000 incentive for NorthWestern Energy Customers

If you're a NorthWestern Energy customer and are switching from an existing electric water heater to a heat pump water heater, you could be eligible for a $3,000 incentive to cover costs. Talk to your contractor about the program. ​Contractors can learn more and apply on your behalf here.

How to apply.

If you haven’t yet purchased a water heater, you can apply today and get pre-qualified for a rebate. (Find a list of local retailers & installers.) If you’ve already purchased a heat pump water heater, you are eligible for a rebate if the purchase was made after June 1, 2023, pending funding availability.

  • NorthWestern Energy has rebate programs for Electric and Gas customers that cover heat pumps, insulation & weatherization, smart thermostats, air purifiers and more. (Make sure to select Montana as your state.)
  • Missoula Electric Cooperative offers rebates that cover heat pumps, water heaters, insulation & weatherization, Energy Star washers and dryers and more.
