: learn why Missoulians (like this neighbor!) are going electric.

This neighbor is taking steps to electrify ... everything!

This yard sign means this home has taken steps to replace methane gas ("natural gas") appliances with energy-efficient electric ones. This could be:
  • Replacing a gas stove with an induction one,
  • Choosing a heat-pump heating and cooling system
  • Replacing an aging hot water heater with a heat-pump hot water heater,
  • Getting an electric vehicle,
  • Or even adding rooftop solar to help green the grid.

Why Electrify?

Building electrification is a key strategy for reducing climate pollution and addressing serious health risks associated with methane gas appliances.

Combustion from these appliances, including HVAC systems, water heaters and gas stoves, can lead to indoor air pollution levels that exceed EPA’s legal limits for outdoor air pollution – and these appliances are responsible for 10% of US greenhouse gas emissions

Fossil-fuel appliances collectively emit double the dangerous nitrogen oxides (NOx) - a potent greenhouse gas and air pollutant - as power plants, and leak methane even when turned off

Getting off fossil gas and going electric, alongside transitioning to renewable electricity, is a critical step to reaching our climate goals and protecting public health!
